Special prayer requests for the churches in Russia

   After 17 years of personal contact with Christians and churches in Russia, it is our belief that the following are the greatest needs of the churches in Russia, Ukraine and other nations of the former Soviet Union.

   1.) National leadership: There is leadership within local churches, sometimes on a citywide basis (not often), and within small regional fellowships and denominations. There are no Christian leaders with nationwide influences. Pray.

   2.) Modern translation of the whole Bible: There is a very old translation which is more than difficult to read and understand. There are fairly good and not so good translations of the New Testament. There is no good and modern translation of the entire scriptures. Pray.

   3.) Distribution of Bibles and other Christian books and materials on a nationwide basis. Local churches, ministries (national and foreign) and a few book shops distribute Christian books. There is no nationwide distribution system and little or no coordination between various suppliers. Pray.

   4.) Leadership training: There has been little or no training for Christian pastors and other church leaders over the past several generations. There are some schools now. Most are short term and taught primarily by foreigners. Various two and three-day seminars are provided by many different mission agencies. We provide such ourselves. On-going and in-depth biblical training across the nation is a great need. National leaders to train the students is just as great a need. Pray.

   5.) Peace and stability throughout society makes all the above more possible, easier, more accessible and more likely to succeed. This is a commodity long in demand and in very short supply. Pray.

   6.) Restoration of godly male leadership in the home: Russia is a "basket case" in this department and will never be anything else until and unless Christian men assume their proper (biblical) role. Pray.

   7.) The youth are as ships without rudders with little or no concept of who they are, where they are going or what the future holds. Pray.

Current prayer requests

   1.) Pray that God will send others to "water" the many "seeds" planted by teams from Bibles For Russia in the several missions during the past couple of years.

   2.) For the health of BFR founder, Alfred McCroskey who is struggling with several serious health problems this year.

   3.) Please pray about joining us on one of the missions planned for '09.

   4.) Praise God for all that He has already done, and continues to do, through His servants, across the former Soviet Union.

   5.) Ask the Lord to grant us the wisdom to complete the good work that He has begun.

   6.) Please pray that we might soon reach our goal to "plant and grow" 1,000 churches across the former Soviet Union, especially in towns and villages where there is no church.
